Dragon Age Origins
This game brings you into the game as a regular person living a regular life. The fifth blight begins and circumstances occur which result in you becoming a Grey Warden, the legendary heroes who are the only ones who can stop a blight and kill an arch-demon. The game begins differently depending on which character you choose (race & class).

1. The Story Lines
- The stories pull you into them as though you are part of this universe itself. It often takes a really good book to plunge me in so deep. They are just amazing. 2. Character Backgrounds
- |
DISLIKE
1. Some Poorly Explained Story Line
- One example would be a character being killed off in one of the games and re-appearing in another. The explanation of how isn't always the best. |
Dragon Age Origins
Characters: Alistair, Morrigan and Shale
Game Like: Tough call. The variance of heroes. Game Dislike: |
1. The Relationship Bar
- I find it easier to tell if they like, love or hate my character. I like being able to see it. 2. Alistair - What isn't to like about him? 3. The Characters - Each character was hard not to like in their own way and their was such a nice diverse set of personalities. - I felt like I really got to know each of them because they were so well-written. It was like being there with them. 4. Variance of the Hero - You could start off as different characters, races, etc. and play them with different starting stories. 5. The Stories - I found some of them so heart-wrenching that it was hard to not really feel for these characters. - It was hard not feeling as though you were part of the story while learning about these characters, their past, the story itself, etc. |
1. Mostly Darkspawn to fight.
- It just seemed like there was endless darkspawn (of course there is supposed to be), but a little variety would have been nice. 2. Alistair and the Hero Relationship
- You can only marry Alistair and make him king if you are a noble. The first time I played this through I was a Dalish elf. I was so heart-broken over the way the story turned out. |
Dragon Age Awakenings
Characters: My favorites aside from the Hero were Oghren, Nathaniel Howe and Sigrun.
Game Like: The return of Oghren and coming across Wynne. Game Dislike: You can't save both places. |
1. Oghren is back.
- I'm not a fan like I am of Alistair but it's a character from the last one and I love being able to see the characters again, how they are, etc. 2. The Hero of Ferelden - You get to play your character again and advance her further. |
1. Hero Continues Alone
- This I had a hard time with. My character just married Alistair and now she must leave him? So sad. 2. The Characters
- I had a harder time connecting and appreciating these characters. They just weren't as likeable as the first ones. I also didn't think they were diverse enough. 3. The Ending
- You can't save both places? Really! So most of my new friends die? So sad. |
Dragon Age 2
Favorites
Characters: Varric Tethras, Isabela and Sebastian Vale. Game Like: Prettier hair. Game Dislike: Romances |
1. The hair choices.
- There was prettier hair here then in the other games. 2. The Champion's Voice
- While at first I was disappointed that you couldn't change her voice as you could with the last one, I was happy that they gave her such a pleasant one. 3. Outfits of the Other Characters
- I kind of like that you could only upgrade them. It would seem weird to see someone like Isabella in plate armor. This kept them in the clothing they came in and just seemed appropriate. 4. Previous Game References
- One of my favorites was asking the bartender about any news and hearing how the population of pigeons was decreasing and who would be so sick. |
1. The Story
- I was rather disappointed to learn there was only one way to start the story. - *SPOILER WARNING* I didn't like that there was so little control over some of it (like whether Carter or Bethany died - decided upon which class you chose, or her mother not being able to be saved). 2. The Champion
- I had a really hard time connecting to the character like I did with the Hero of Ferelden. 3. Friend Vs. Rival
- Say what?? I was over half-way through the game before I figured out what was going on with that. I wouldn't think that marrying your rival would involve a healthy relationship. What happened to the gold old friend and enemy bar (enemy, I leave you)? As hard as I tried, I couldn't get Sebastian to be a rival but that's just me. 4. Finding the Upgrades or Love Items
- I found this tricky and didn't even realize the love items existed. 5. Bethany's Face Changes (Not sure about Carver but probably the same applies if you are a boy)
- You know how Bethany or Carver looks at the intro of the game, the part where you have no control of your appearance? This is the original area I am talking about. I chose to have the Champion to have the same hair as Bethany's. I later found out that depending on hairstyle, Bethany (and I assume Carver's if you are a boy and perhaps even if you aren't) face changes. I chose her original hairstyle. Not only did it change Bethany's hair style but her face too. I thought she looked kind of ugly compared to before. - The way around this: You need "The Black Emporium" DLC. If you have it, don't choose the same hairstyle as Bethany or Carver at the beginning. As soon as you can, visit The Black Emporium. There is a mirror there that allows you to change your appearance. I did this and Bethany and the Champion have the same hairstyle as well as no facial changes. 6. Romances
- These romances seem like they are all doomed. I tried flirting with Anders but he kept going on about how it would be doomed because he is such a bad boy. I tried Sebastian but he said he couldn't because of the Chantry rules. I finally gave up on those two thinking she didn't have a shot and went with Fenris. After he visited her at her place it got weird. He didn't want to be with her because of the memories that stirred. Then I take Anders on a quest and he asks about Fenris and I (the Champion). I tell him Fenris dumped me. That seemed to be the end of that relationship. I later find out that if I'd found his item then I could have maybe continued it? I never did get to find out. - For those that like being able to go back and get intimate or kiss your character again and again (as in Origins and the latter in Inquisition), this game didn't seem to have that, at least not that I saw. |
Dragon Age Inquisition
Favorites:
Characters: Cullen of course. Playable though - Iron Bull, Cassandra and Varric Tethras. Game Like: The personalization of it all plus the large maps and loads of quests. Game Dislike: Lack of pretty hair and voices. |
1. The Characters
- While the characters are not as loveable as the first, I found that some I actually quite disliked. The game brought me in as easily as the first one but I found myself wishing a few would just go jump in a lake because they disgusted me. 2.. Cullen
- What can I say. I think I like the shy ones that are polite and know how to treat a lady. He isn't bad looking either (just like my Sims, they all have to be pretty). 3. Collecting Materials or Gardening
- I have to say that this was a nice addition to the game. It gives a little side something to do plus it let's you create some awesome outfits! 4. The Outfits
- At first I thought they would be regular like before. Then as I created my first one, I realized that the purple stone I just used added purple to her outfit. I was excited from there to see what other interesting designs I could make. The worst was Dorian in a plaid outfit. 5. Upgrades and Designing Outfits
- Not only can you upgrade your gear but design it with materials. I can't say how much I love this! Purple metal, dark or light leathers, the list just goes on. - If you don't entirely want to design according to colors and what your characters would look good in, each item also comes with certain perks. One item has cold resistance, another increases your stamina, etc. 6. Skyhold
- I just love Skyhold! You can design the furnishings (banners, bed in bedroom, windows, etc.) as well as upgrades for the place itself (will you have a templar tower or a mage tower?). - The place is big too. Plenty to see and explore. 7. The War Table
- This is such a neat set up. You begin to open up new areas and new quests on this. 8. Mounts
- You have to love the large variety of mounts here. You can ride a horse or so many other cool creatures! Each mount seems to vary with how easily you can be knocked off to speed to how easy it is to maneuver. I found that mounts with wide horns were a little harder to get around places. 9. The Vastness of the Game
- There seem to be a ton of quests that keep you busy for some time. - Some of these maps are huge! 10. Decisions
- There seems to be an effect of every decision you make whether it is ridding an whole area of bears (resulting in bear extinction there) or consequences of actions at the war table. |
1. The Lack of Hair Choices
- There were only two choices I really liked. Most I wouldn't have my Herald caught dead in. 2. The Lack of Voice Choices
- Only two voices is really disappointing. When trying to play a different character it would be nice if they sounded a little different, not good or evil. 3. No Relationship Bar Period
- First we went from awesome relationship bar to weird bar to no bar? How am I supposed to tell if my characters are going to leave me, love me, etc? I guess in life you can't tell for sure so why in this game? I guess it's more realistic that way. 4, Skyhold Bedroom
- I didn't quite understand the point of the bedroom (unless you are romancing a certain someone who enters it with you). Dragon age 2 at least had people visit the home. This has nothing. It looks pretty but it's pretty much useless other then to look at. 5. Power Points
- I had a lot of left over points that I wasn't able to use on the war table. Perhaps some DLC's will be added later and I can use them for those. 6. Character Attributes
- You can choose which skills you have however when it comes to where to distribute your attribute points, you don't have a choice. The game does it for you. 7. The War Table
- The only thing I would change is to have it show quests that aren't done yet a little bit better. Maybe a lit up object instead of it all looking the same? Once you've opened them, the little dot above disappears. 8. The Hero of Ferelden
- Again I chose to have my hero live and marry King Alistair. She is barely married, has to go save the world again and then by the time this story comes out, she is out searching for a cure for the calling. She doesn't tell her husband or even her best friends? I find that so disturbing. What kind of wife is she? I get that she wants to save them and the why but I mean come on! - We get word from the Hero but never see her. Will she complete the quest? Will she live past 30 years? Will she have any time left with her husband? - I found I had a lack of respect for her after this story and too many lack of answers. I hope a DLC will cover this. |
